We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Planner or Associate to join our successful planning team within our multi-disciplinary office in Wellington, Somerset. We are looking for an experienced and senior town planning professional who will be engaged in a range of interesting and rewarding projects across the south west. The successful candidate will ideally be a work "bringer" and "winner" or at least have the potential to develop these qualities. Our main focus of work is on private sector clients in the residential sector. Acting as a senior member of our team, you will be expected to manage and run a range of development proposals. You will also work collaboratively with our colleagues across planning and all other WYG disciplines. Our Wellington office accommodates planning, transportation, ecology and design teams. We are looking to expand all these teams, including the planning team, with a number of appointments at various levels. The office boasts a great strategic location, being just one mile off Junction 26 of the M5 on the edge of Wellington. The office is within easy reach of many of Devon's coastal towns, Exmoor and Dartmoor, as well as Taunton and Exeter. Amongst other things, the office offers plentiful free car parking for colleagues and clients as well as a shower for those lunch-time runs While we work hard, we have a little fun along the way and we're proud of the office's friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Your Role As a proven technical expert you'll apply your experience, knowledge and know-how to meet the needs of our growing client base. You will be involved in a variety of projects for a range of public and private sector clients, providing advice from initial feasibility studies, to strategic advice and Development Plan promotions, to planning applications and appeals. You will have the opportunity to lead your own projects and develop your own client base, as well as to work within multi-disciplinary teams on larger proposals. We have a great reputation for collaborative working with local communities and local authorities to deliver high quality developments, including urban extensions. We also work directly with local authorities in assisting with evidence base assessments to inform supplementary planning guidance and local plans. About You - You will demonstrate a high level of planning knowledge and the ability to undertake a variety of projects across a diverse range of sectors. You will have excellent problem solving, communication and negotiation skills. - You will be commercially aware, able to identify and respond appropriately to new business opportunities and foster strong relationships both internally and externally. - You will be educated to degree level, with relevant professional qualifications and have Chartered Membership of the RTPI. - You will have experience in a similar role in either consultancy or local authority. - You will have in-depth knowledge of relevant planning legislation, policy and procedure and its application. - Knowledge of management systems for quality, financial and project controls would be advantageous but not essential. - A full, clean driving licence is essential.
